Our Founder, Thomas Peebles

In 1946 Thomas Peebles moved his family from Pennsylvania to Florida after retiring from a successful career in engineering. But retirement didn't last long when he developed a new passion - growing citrus. He planted multiple varieties of citrus fruit in the rich soil of the Indian River area and then marketed this prime gift-grade citrus to gift fruit shippers throughout the county.

Art Jones

When Thomas Peebles decided to plant orange groves in Florida, he called his daughter Betty and son-in-law Art, inviting them down from Pittsburgh to Vero Beach to help run the groves. They said yes and made the move with their 3 year old son Tom shortly thereafter. Thomas and Art worked side-by-side for decades sustainably cultivating Range Line Groves and marketing the fruit to packing houses across the state. This was the golden age of the Florida citrus industry. In fact, in 1952 an estimated 72 million boxes of Florida citrus was produced!

Upon retirement, Art passed the torch to his son, Tom Jones.

Our Current "Head Orange"

Tom Jones, Thomas Peebles' grandson, joined the family business in 1974 after returning home from military service in Vietnam. Tom wasn't a newbie to the industry however. He grew up in the groves. And when he took over, he had new ideas. He sought to grow the business by expanding into mail order so he jumped on the opportunity to buy Hyatt Fruit Company when its founder, Joel Hyatt, decided to retire. Our next milestone was in 1996 when Tom saw the potential that e-commerce held for catalog companies like Hyatt. Our first website was launched, eventually contributing to Hyatt's continued success and longevity. Today Tom leads our team with over 60 years of knowledge and experience in the citrus industry, making him one of the foremost experts in Florida's most loved agriculture products.
